Things To Do In Juneau

Mendenhall Glacier

Just a short bus or cab ride from downtown Juneau, the Mendenhall Glacier is a must see when coming to our city. The Mendenhall Glacier is 13 miles long and it is easily seen from our comfortable visitors center.

From the center you will learn about the Glacier and its history along with the wildlife in the area. From the center you may see wild goats, deer, spawning salmon and maybe even a bear or two.

Make sure you bring your camera as this is n spectacular site and and well worth the short drive.

Red Dog Saloon

You can't say you have been to Juneau without stopping in at the Red Dog Saloon. Plan to stay awhile because there is more stuff to see than you can shake a halibut at.

Enjoy a "cold one" or order from the menu, you will not be disappointed in either. No matter when you go there is always things to do at the Red Dog!

Don't forget to get one of their hats or T-Shirts. I guarantee you that when you were it back home somebody will stop you and say "Ive Been There".

Alaska State Museum

With Juneau being the capitol of Alaska it is fitting that the Alaska State Museum is located in Juneau.

The Museum is filled with interesting history and artifacts from Alaska's past. Plan enough time to see all that it has to offer

State Capitol

Juneau is the capitol of Alaska and the State Capitol building was built as a Federal Building.

The Capitol building houses the state legislature along with the Goveners Office.

Governor's Mansion

The Gonernor's mansion is the official residence of the Governor of Alaska. It was built in 1912. There are a lot of historical displays talking about the history of Alaska.

The Mansion is not always open for tour so you will want to call ahead or check with a local tour company for more information.

Sportsman's Warehouse

If you are an outdoors person and you don't have a Sportsman Warehouse near you then visiting the Sportsman Warehouse in Juneau is a must. They have a tremendous selection of both hunting and fishing equipment.

Douglas Island

Just across the Gastineau Channel from Juneau is Douglas Island. It is accessable by a bridge connecting Juneau with the Island

On Douglas Island is the town of Douglas that has approximately 5000 residents. Douglas Island has a Gold Mine, Ski Resort, the only sandy beach in the Juneau area and many other natural attractions

Shrine of St Teresa

The Shrine of St Teresa is a beautiful place to visit while in Juneau. The Church and Shrine are beautiful works of art both inside and out.

For those that want to enjoy the grounds there is a hiking trail that leads you up to the bluff.

Tracy Arm

There are not many things in nature more spectacular than a calving glacier.

A trip to the Tracy Arm takes you directly into this most amazing area.

Sawyer Glacier

The Sawyer Glacier is just one of the glaciers feeding into the bay in the Tracy Arm.

Mt. Roberts Tram (gondola)

The Mount Roberts Tram connects the Juneau area with Mt Roberts and climbs an inncrediable 1800 feet. From the summit you will get a spectacular view of Juneau and the surrounding area.

Herbert Glacier (paved trail)

The Herbert Glacier Trail is a 4 mile long paved trail that takes you up to the Herbert Glacier.

The trail is easy to navigate and is the easiest of all glacier trails in the area. Both beginners and advanced hikers alike enjoy the path and the views along the way.

Temsco Helicopter Tour

Viewing Juneau and the surrounding area by Air is an amazing experience.

Temsco is a highly respected Helicopter Tour company that is focused on safety.

Some of their tour packages also include landing on a glacier and letting you get out to enjoy the experience.
